1.Rascal the raccoon lives with his family in the town. At night he plays with his best friend Ruff the fox.
2.“Quick! Come on Rascal! Catch the leaves before they fall!” laughs Ruff. Rascal laughs too, as he jumps up to catch a leaf.
3.“Wow!” Says Ruff. “Look Rascal someone's thrown out almost a whole chicken!”
“EEEUWW!” Says Rascal, wrinkling his nose. “You can't eat that!”
“Like to see you stop me!” laughs Ruff.
4.Something blue catches Rascals eye, and he jumps forward to look at it.
“Ruff! Ruff come quick! Look what I found!” Rascal shouts.
5.“What is is?” Asks Ruff, sniffing at the ball.
“It's a ball. Come on! Let's play with it!” Says Rascal, jumping onto the ball.
6.Rascal lands heavily on the ball and it shoots away from him.
“Oh! Where's it going?” Rascal asks as the ball rolls off.
7.The ball rolls into the road and Rascal pauses, he doesn't like the road. It's too big and black for him.
“I'll get it!” Shouts Ruff, running into the road after the ball.
8.BANG
9.“Ruff?” Asks Rascal, as he shakes the fox. “Ruff wake up.”
Ruff doesn't wake up.
“Ruff! Stop being silly! Wake up!” Shouts Rascal.
Ruff still doesn't wake up.
“RUFF!” Rascal shouts.
… But Ruff still hasn't woken up.
Ruff can't wake up...
… because Ruff is dead.
10.The next night Rascal is missing Ruff very much. He wants to play with his friend but Ruff isn't there to play with him. This makes him very sad, and Rascal starts to cry.
11.Rascal watched as two cats play near him. The look very happy.
“Oliver! Pass the ball here Oliver!” Says the white cat.
“OK Arthur.” Says Oliver and he passes the ball to Arthur. They both laugh happily.
Rascal sighs, he has no one to play with and that makes him sad.
12.Rascal climbs onto the shed roof. He can see the moon and all the stars from up here. They just make him sadder though and Rascal starts to cry again.
“Ruff...”
13.Rascal is crying so much that Ruff's ghost decided to come down to see what the fuss is all about. He settles down on the shed roof and nudged Rascal.
“Rascal?” Asks Ruff “What's wrong Rascal?”
14.Rascal spins around and jumps up happily.
“Ruff!” shouts Rascal “you cam back!”
Ruff nods his head and then laughing, he jumps at Rascal and the two roll off the roof as they wrestle.
15.“Oh yum” Says Ruff. “I like fish!”
“Yeah” Says Rascal “but I don't think that lady likes us eating her fish though.” He adds as a slipper bounces off Ruff's head.
A lady comes out of her house, shouting at them and waving her other slipper in the air. The two quickly run off.
16.“Whoa! Look at this Rascal! I can stick my arm right through you!” Shouts Ruff. “Isn't that so cool?” And he puts his arm through Rascal again.
“Eep...” Says Rascal as he watches, he's not too sure.
17.Its getting late and Rascal gives a large yawn. Ruff giggles at him and then looks up at the sky.
“Rascal,” Says Ruff. “I have to go now Rascal.”
“Will you come and play with me tomorrow Ruff?” Asks Rascal.
Ruff shakes his head, no.
18.“I can't come back Rascal.” Says Ruff.
“Why not?” Rascal shouts.
“Because.” Says Ruff, looking up at the sky again, as tears form in his eyes.
“Because what?” Shouts Rascal.
Ruff just smiles and hugs his friend.
“Because I'm not allowed to.” He says.
“But I miss you so!” Cries Rascal.
19.“Silly Rascal. I've never left you.” Says Ruff, “I'm always watching down over you.” Then he steps back and lifts into the night air.
“Bye Rascal” Says Ruff, as he floats off.
20.“Bye Ruff.” Whispers Rascal as he watches his friend soar into the air. Ruff lifts up and up and up and then shines brightly for a moment...
… and becomes a star.
21.“Goodbye Ruff.” Rascal says as he watches the star form in the sky. He smiles and then turns away.
22.Something bounces off Rascals paw, and he looks down at the blue ball beside him. A white cat rushes up to him and then skids to a stop.
“Oh sorry!” Says Arthur, “Say, do you want to play ball with us?” He asks.
Rascal doesn't say anything, and then he nods his head and passes the ball to Arthur.
“Yeah, OK then.” Says Rascal.
23.Rascal, Oliver and Arthur play ball until the sun comes up and its time to go home. The stars fade from the sky and Ruff's star is the very last one to leave...
