The Lonesome Puppy:
Nara, Yoshitomo. 2008, Chronicle. 'The Lonesome puppy'
The lonesome puppy is a book about a giant puppy that no one notices (because it's just too big) until one day I little girl decided to climb up its leg and they become friends. It's a simple premice but the way Nara illustrates the story is very effective.
Most of the images in the book are done in Nara's typical painting style, the first page however is a simple line drawing that's far more graphicy in nature then the rest of the book. The text sets up the story, places inside a line drawing of the puppys head.

Nara's rough but very controlled painting style works really well for the feel of this book, its playful and unique enough to leave a lasting impression. Its interesting to see how the canvas are worked into the page and the text onto them.
